Urinary tract infections are bacterial infections affecting any part of the urinary tract. They are common health problem affecting millions of people each year. Infections of the urinary tract are the second most common type of infection in the body. Known by different name viz. bladder- cystitis, kidney- pyelonephritis, ureter- ureteritis, urethera- urethritis etc. Women tend to get them more often because their urethra is shorter and closer to the anus than in men. Symtoms vary from change in urine composition to burning in urination to fever with chills. Diabetes, Advanced age, kidney stones, enlarged prostate etc are some conditions which facilitate the minor infection to become something of a serious nature. Treatment would include antibiotics, for simpler ones, finding the cause and if there are anatomical problems causing infections repeatedly, a surgery may be suggested by the doctor.
