Kyphoplasty

About

It is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure that is designed to relieve the pain of compression fractures. Performed under Local/ general anesthesia with guidance of fluoroscopic x-ray, a needle is inserted into the fractured vertebra space and a balloon is inserted into each side and inflated to desired height and filled with Bone Cement. As much as 33-50% of vertebral height restoration is feasible. This binds the fracture and provides strength and stability to the vertebra, restoring height, and relieving pain. Kyphoplasty has the advantage of being able to restore height to the spine, thus reducing deformity. After the procedure, most patients quickly return to their normal daily activities. Experience of the surgeon on the procedure is essential for desired results.
