Infertility Management

About Infertility Management

Infertility is a condition where the couple is unable to conceive after 12 months of regular sexual relationship without birth control.
There are two kinds of infertility - primary and secondary:

  • Primary infertility means that the couple has never conceived.
  • Secondary infertility means that the couple has experienced a pregnancy before and failed to conceive later.

Half of all cases of infertility result from problems with the man's reproductive system. Investigations of the wife should never be started until after the result of husband's semen analysis is available.Of couples that seek medical treatment for infertility, 20% conceive before the treatment actually begins. 50% conceive within two years from starting treatment. The infertility treatment plan would depend upon the cause of the problem and also depends on whether the problem is from the woman's side, the man's side, both sides, or remains unexplained. The treatment ranges from fertility drugs, Intrauterine Insemination, Assisted reproductive technologies e.g. IVF, GIFT and ZIFT to surgical intervention for correction of any anatomical abnormality. Choosing the doctor according to the root cause of the problem is essential to cut short the time taken before conceiving.
