Temporary Female Sterilization
Birth Control Pills – Birth control are very old and most commonly used contraceptive methods in India. These pills are hormonal pills and control the reproductive cycle in females. These can only be used by women. Hormonal methods cause changes in the woman’s reproductive cycle and include birth control pills, birth control patches, emergency contraception pill, Implants and so on.
Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) – In this method an object called an intrauterine device or IUD is put in the woman’s uterus. There are two types of IUD: the copper IUD or an IUD with hormones implanted on it. The hormonal IUD has better protection against pregnancy but costs more. You need not do anything once it is inserted. Also, it is effective for up to 10 years. The copper IUD is again a traditional product. The most common of them is copper-T.
Mirena Ring – Mirena is a hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) that can provide long-term birth control (contraception). The device is a T-shaped plastic frame that’s inserted into the uterus, where it releases a type of the hormone progestin. Mirena releases the hormone that thickens mucus in the cervix to stop sperm from reaching or fertilizing an egg as well as thins the lining of uterus.
Female sterilization is a permanent procedure to prevent pregnancy. It works by blocking the fallopian tubes. Sterilization is the best option when the female has decided not to have further babies. The most common female sterilization process in India is called Tubal Ligation. In tubal ligation the fallopian tubes are cut or sealed. It’s sometimes referred to as getting your tubes tied. The procedure is usually performed using a minimally invasive surgery . It can also be done just after a vaginal delivery or cesarean delivery (commonly referred to as a C-section). Nonsurgical procedures use devices placed in the fallopian tubes to seal them.
This procedure blocks the path between the ovaries and the uterus. The sperm cannot reach the egg to fertilize it and the egg cannot reach the uterus. The surgery for tubal ligation is done under anaesthesia and requires day care admission in the hospital.
